Wasel Safwan Antepli was born on 16th Ramadan 1399 H. ( 9th August 1979 ). He grew up in Al Ain city in the Al Muajei district, United Arab Emirates, the eldest child in a close knit family comprising four girls and three boys.
Wasel studied at local private schools in Al Ain city, finishing his education with a Bachelor in Architecture, from Ajman University in Al Ain in 2003. His artwork is proof that the study of architecture influenced his emerging style making it clearer and sharper by introducing broken lines and geometries. He enjoy composing sharp contrasting volumes, shapes and colours on a large canvas which for him represent a view of the world that is vibrant and confident.
Wasel has now participated in a number of solo and group exhibitions such as the French Art Festival 2008 in Abu Dhabi, Art Paris Abu Dhabi 2007 at Emirates Palace, and the solo exhibition titled "Constructivism and UAEism by Wasel ART" at the Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre. His first exhibition piece in the Inaugural Biennale Exhibition for Fine Arts, UAE University in 2001 earned him first prize. This was awarded to him by Sheikh Nihayan bin Mubarak Al Nihyan, president of the UAE University at his palace in Abu Dhabi.
Wasel’s idea for his UAEism style of non-figurative, abstract
art evolved from the cultural influences of his upbringing and
surroundings together with his study of Architecture.
Wasel personal philosophy on art is , "Art was born from a
respect for humanity; its colours correspond to different
tongues in different conditions at the same time".
